Ghetto (“Ghetto,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Ghetto mobile app and the website at ghetto.co.bw, a directory that helps people in Botswana find nearby places and services. This policy explains what information we collect through the app, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Ghetto, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Account information

If you register or log in, we collect the display name, username, email address, password, and WhatsApp number you provide. This information is used to create your account, authenticate you, and let business owners manage their listings.

Location data

With your permission, Ghetto accesses your device’s location to show you places near you and to calculate distance and directions. If you submit a business listing, we also use your location to record the coordinates of that business so customers can find it. You can allow, deny, or revoke location access at any time in your device settings; declining it only limits “near me” features and does not prevent you from browsing listings.

Listing information

When you add a business listing, we collect the business name, category, country, town, WhatsApp number, website (if provided), and coordinates you submit. Submitted listings are reviewed before publication and, once published, are visible to other users of the app and website.

Information stored on your device

To keep you signed in and the app responsive, we store some information locally on your device: your login credentials are kept in your device’s secure, encrypted storage, and non-personal data such as listings and place categories are cached locally to speed up loading and reduce data usage. This locally stored data is removed when you log out or uninstall the app.

Information we do not collect

Ghetto does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services, and we do not access your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone.

How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

Create and manage your account

Show you places and services near your location

Publish and display business listings you submit

Let customers contact a listed business via WhatsApp, its website, or directions

Respond to support requests and password reset requests

Maintain the security and reliability of the app

How We Share Information

Business listing details (including the listing’s WhatsApp number, website, and location) are public and displayed to anyone using the app or website, because their purpose is to let customers find and contact the business. Account details such as your password are never shared. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Ghetto, our users, or the public.

Data Storage and Security

Data you submit is transmitted securely (HTTPS) to our servers at ghetto.co.bw. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

Location: you can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings.

Account and listing data: you can update your account details in the app, or contact us to request correction, export, or deletion of your account and any listings you submitted.

Account deletion: to delete your account and associated data, email us at the address below.

Children’s Privacy

Ghetto is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
